3G[s] == jailbroken

Linky

Props to geohot for the iBoot hack. I am pretty amazed, pod2g found it recently, but we never got it to work correctly, while geohotz found it and had it up and running less than a week after 3G[s] release. A mac GUI is on it’s way, but for now it is windows only. Note that you do NOT need to restore to anything for this, it is basically a (quicker) version of QuickPwn.

I love how it took them a few days to jailbreak iphone 3GS an it took 2g ipod touch months >.>

  2. Beau says:

Probably because the 3GS used the same flaw already found in the iPod touch 2G :P

  3. chronicdev says:

while that is true, and iboot exploit was still needed :)

  4. cico187 says:

Lets see what the next challenge will be for the iphone-dev and chrnic-dev as well…The cat and mouse game will keep going on and on until one side gives up =]

  5. Cloudd says:

So, Chronic, are you still hacking things and making jailbreak tools, or has this blog just died?

  6. chronicdev says:

I am to assume you did not read geohotz blog post on this jb? We helped put it together.

  7. itaintrite says:

Too many errors and patches needed. I'm waiting for them chronicdevteam. Go go :)

I have no idea, so I'll ask.
Does that mean you don't have to get those files from purplera1n with that 16 digit number thing? I don't have a 3G S, but I'm curious.

  9. Alex says:

Not that I have much room to talk, simply because it's incredible that you people are so talented & can develop software/jailbreaks/etc., but purplera1n was EXTREMELY buggy and unreliable when I used it.

I'd love to see a working, non-beta version that functioned at 100% like QuickPWN always has (well, for the most part).

Thank you again for all your hard work.

    I NEED HELP!!!!!

My iPod Touch 2G is not starting up! It has been jailbroken for awhile now, and I recently tried to install something named “Stack 3″ from the Xsellize repo. It installed, and asked me to restart the springboard. I tapped on that, and then it never restarted! I just kept seeing the same swirly thing going around and around.

I then shut my ipod off, and proceeded to restart it. 8 hours later, it was still showing the apple logo and hadn't started up.

I plugged it into the computer. I could see all my songs and music through iTunes! It was still on the apple logo though! I could even open up DiskAid! Using DiskAid I found the folder for stacks, and deleted it. But it is still stuck on the apple logo!

    HELP!

  14. Mac says:

Ok, now it seems to have gone into recovery mode. I can see the picture of a usb and itunes.

I really don't want to restore! HELP!

  15. callmebam says:

    What firmware are you running?

  16. Mac says:

    2.2, I think I'm just going to restore to a jailbroken 3.0…. Oh well…

  17. Mac says:

    I NEED MORE HELP!

I just installed 3.0, and installing anything from cydia or icy doesn't work. It just throws this error.

    http://i26.tinypic.com/15×79ep.png

And I mean ANYTHING I try to install.

  18. Mac says:

Well, a re-spring fixed that last error. Now I'm getting this error.

  19. csfds says:

you NEEDED 3.0 for stack 3.

  20. callmebam says:

When you went to 3.0, did you restore from a backup?

  21. Mac says:

When I restored I downloaded 3.0 off the Internet for free. So it isn't a backup of anything.

  22. Mac says:

    Oh…..

  23. Mac says:

Sometimes it says “grep” instead of “ncurses”

  24. bearsman34 says:

    @Mac

    reply wasnt working…

what callmebam was asking was did u restore from backup in itunes after u restored the formware i believe…correct me if im wrong… amd ur problem might be u downloaded a bad restore firmware off the internet or maybe u accidentally downloades the beta firmware….just use itunea to do the restore alone…

  25. callmebam says:

Then I suggest buying it in iTunes and starting completely over.

  26. Mac says:

So, restore to 2.2.1, then buy 3.0, then try it?

I don't think that will make a difference, but it could.

  27. Mac says:

    I didn't restore to a backup.

And I didn't use like a custom ipsf or whatever its called.

  28. Al Dumbrava says:

    Lmao

    “3g[s] == jailbroken”

I love how you used ==
the way to compare if one side is equal to the other in cpp

  29. Mac says:

My problem was solved by another restore but this time I unchecked Icy.

    I am now running a jailbroken 3.0 perfectly! W00t!

  30. bearsman34 says:

    yea!!!!!

im glad u got it to work

  31. xxjailbreakmexx says:

HAHA i'm sorry but thats really funny xP

  32. Mac says:

Yea 3.0 is pretty sweet =D

  33. bearsman34 says:

so whats next in this world of jailbreaking/unlocking????

tryin to find a new hole in the 3.1 baseband i guess??

chronic are u gunna work on soft unlocks or do u only mess with jailbreaks???….an honest question not me tryin to be a jerk…and i do appreciate all the work u do put towards jailbreaks

on another note what do u guys think of the camera in the ipod 3,1 i guess it would be called??

  34. callmebam says:

That's just speculation…remember allllll the iPhone2,1 “specs” out there? Lots of it was fake. And I think, for iPods, it will just go 1G, 2G, 3G, and so on. No S's or C's or whatever letter Apple wants. Just my opinion.

  35. bearsman34 says:

good to see u back up and running

  36. xxjailbreakmexx says:

yay! chronic dev blog is back, new and improved!
